Frequently Asked Questions

Your first session is all about getting to know you and what brings you in. We’ll talk about your goals, your history, and what you’re hoping to get out of therapy. It’s relaxed, low-pressure, and a chance for us to make sure it feels like a good fit.

Sessions typically last 50 minutes but we also offer different session types and flexibility with scheduling. Take a look at our Investment Page to see the options.

I do not accept insurance, except a limited number of Aetna clients. I can provide a superbill you can submit to your insurance provider for possible out-of-network reimbursement. It’s best to check with your provider about your mental health coverage.
Why do you only take Aetna?
I decided to start taking Aetna through Headway because so many are facing financial hardships. I’ve always offered a sliding scale as a way to make my services more accessible, and I decided that I would start taking one insurance to further that goal of accessibility.
Headway will have access to the therapy notes and billing codes/diagnosis codes, but generally notes are only reviewed during audits. To bill insurance, there does have to be a diagnosis for the insurance provider to see “medical necessity” and choose to pay for the service. So billing insurance does reduce privacy and autonomy with treatment, but for some clients this is a worthwhile trade-off. If you have Aetna but still want to pay out-of-pocket, let me know and you can choose to decline coverage.

I ask for 24 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule a session.
Late cancellations or no-shows will be charged the full session fee, unless it’s an emergency. If we can reschedule you within the same week, the late cancel fee will be waived. If you are using Aetna, then the late cancellation and no-show fee is $150.

Most clients start with weekly sessions or every other week. For faster progress I recommend weekly sessions, but it’s really up to you and what works for your schedule. As progress is made, we may space things out. We’ll decide together what makes the most sense based on your goals and capacity.
